Ian Buruma is an Anglo-Dutch author, journalist and academic. Born in the Netherlands in 1951, he lived and worked in Japan and Hong Kong for many years. His many books include Bad Elements, The Missionary and the Libertine, Anglomania (UK: Voltaires Coconuts), A Japanese Mirror, God's Dust, The Wages of Guilt, and Playing the Game (novel). He writes regularly for the New York Times, the New York Review of Books, Newsweek, Le Monde, and Lettre International. Since 2003 he has been Henry R. Luce Professor of Human Rights and Journalism at Bard college.
